Is there any hope? How do I deal with my anger? What should I do to secure my future? Why are there so many changes? Why can’t I see my friends?
So many questions with few concrete answers. Children and youth across Lebanon are struggling to understand the situation and cope with the fears of their parents and the community at large. More importantly, they’re struggling to find their role in such an incomprehensible crisis.
After speaking with many churches and various counselors, BCYM has focused its priority on responding to the needs of the children and youth in order to reduce their anxiety, anger, boredom, loneliness, fear and the tension that exists in their families.
Since March, BCYM has been developing an evolving online program based on the weekly feedback it receives. So far, this online program includes:
Encouraging Words for Youth and Children
These include short videos with messages, tips, and activities for both youth and children that could help them get through these trying times.
“I was really touched by the story Marc told. It made me understand more the verse “Be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger”. I’ve always known that we should not be angry at people but never thought about it this way: that the reason for being slow to anger is to be able to give the Lord the first response. This is really helping me with my temper issues!”
Live Q&A session for Youth on Facebook
These comprise live sessions on Facebook and cover important questions that youth have been asking during this challenging time. The first session welcomed Pastor Joseph Azzi, who answered questions on fears about the future, God’s will, and where to find hope. The second session welcomed Clinical Psychologist Celia Khater who answered questions on how to deal with stress and minimize its effects.
“The episode helped and encouraged me to move away from sources that are making me nervous. It’s true that I can’t change our situation, so I have two solutions: either I die from worrying or I live day by day and keep my eyes on the Lord.”
Ashkal Activities for Children
A short video series called Ashkal Activities for Kids was also introduced to teach children, both Lebanese and refugees, how to make crafts that remind them of God’s Word and of His love. Each video includes a Bible story, craft or activity, and a follow-up challenge.
“The episode helped and encouraged me to move away from sources that are making me nervous. It’s true that I can’t change our situation, so I have two solutions: either I die from worrying or I live day by day and keep my eyes on the Lord.”
In addition to continuing the above mentioned series, BCYM is also working on a program to strengthen families along with short one minute videos for Lebanese and refugee children across Lebanon. Is there any hope? God says there is!
“But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
